Promise Philosophy
Our Philosophy
The educational philosophy of Promise Preschool comes from God’s Word: “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man (Luke 2:5).” We provide a program that supports the whole child, encouraging positive development socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually in a safe and loving environment. We believe each child is a unique individual and should be given an education unique to the child.
Spiritual Development
We support the spiritual growth of our children by providing opportunities to learn the gospel through weekly guided chapel and weekly Bible stories. Our teachers also demonstrate Christ-like behavior through their daily interactions and use the Bible as a guiding tool in their classrooms.
Educational Development
Our teachers strive to provide educational opportunities through engaging teacher-planned activities as well as through play. Activities are developmentally appropriate and targeted toward the developmental needs of the student. Teachers work hard at play, meaning play is a deliberate activity in which learning takes place and is freely given to children at appropriate moments throughout the day. Play is self-directed, but monitored and facilitated by teachers, who make an active effort to play with children.
Social Development
We support the social and emotional growth of our children by utilizing a blend of various social-emotional curricula in conjunction with positive classroom management. Students are encouraged to use their words to solve conflicts that arise in the classroom. We also offer opportunities to calm their bodies through calm down centers and safe spaces. Teachers model problem solving language as well as positive interactions with peers, parents, and students. Teachers work together in deliberate teamwork to support each child as they need.
Safety
In addition to the educational growth opportunities we provide, we offer a safe learning environment. We practice scrupulous safety by limiting entry into the building without I.D. Our teachers are watchful and responsible in the classroom. They plan activities that are engaging but safe. Teachers guide children through any potentially risky play (such as climbing the jungle gym) with careful words and physical intervention if necessary. Teachers also help children evaluate risk through asking questions like, “What is your plan? Does this seem safe? How can we keep ourselves and our friends safe? What would be a safe way to do this?” Children are supervised at all times. We provide accident reports for all visible injuries in a timely manner, and we have direct contact with parents through Brightwheel.
Through these practices we ensure that we are providing an environment that is conducive to the safety and overall well-being of our Promise students as well as the professional growth and well-being of our teachers.
